The Powellhurst-Gilbert neighborhood borders Montavilla, Hazelwood, and Mill Park to the North, Centennial to the East, Pleasant Valley to the East/South, and Lents and South Tabor to the West. It’s a neighborhood of cultural and ethnic diversity, easily commutable, with well-regarded schools, and with natural greenspaces nearby.

Mill Park is a family friendly neighborhood in the outer SE section of Portland, with residential areas and an easy commute downtown. It borders Hazelwood on the west, north and east, and Powellhurst-Gilbert on the south.
Made up of the distinctly different micro-neighborhoods of Fulton, Johns Landing, Terwilliger, South Waterfront, Lair Hill and Corbett, South Portland is just south of downtown and bordered by the Willamette. This area features a range of vintage home styles along with modern high rise condos, classic feeling neighborhoods, some river views, and close proximity to OHSU and the tram.
Located in SE Portland, Woodstock is a great neighborhood of families, singles and urbanites. This area feels community conscious, eco-friendly, and very family friendly. It’s a little too far out to be considered “close in”, but somehow maintains that Portland neighborhood vibe. The sweet Woodstock Village features grocery stores, bars, restaurants, a hardware store, and library. Woodstock Elementary is home to a Chinese immersion program.
Brooklyn is close to some of Portland’s most hip and popular neighborhoods, like Sellwood, Hawthorne and Clinton. Residents have plenty of coffee, pub and dining options very nearby and often in the next neighborhood over. Brooklyn itself is a mix of residential and industrial buildings. With the addition of the new Orange MAX line, it is easier than ever to get around downtown Portland from the Brooklyn neighborhood.
Foster-Powell has seen an influx of new residents to the area in recent years, which has helped to create a new and vibrant, although still developing, community. Foster-Powell has some lovely pockets with beautifully improved and renovated homes. A special Fo-Po treat is the number of great authentic restaurants and shops in this neighborhood.
Montavilla is located in deep SE, but manages to maintain an urban Portland vibe. Vintage homes and old growth trees fill many of the local streets. The shops, restaurants, and theater located on SE Stark hip up the neighborhood, while the Montavilla Farmers Market adds to a sense of community. Nearby Mt. Tabor is a very popular park for hiking, biking, and picnics.
Old Town Chinatown is located in downtown Portland. Housing options include market-rate, affordable and low-income apartments and a growing number of opportunities for home ownership. Old Town Chinatown provides easy access to the MAX light rail and Tri-Met buses. This area has not been historically desirable and ownership options are limited, but improvements are being made to the area.
Cully is a culturally and economically diverse mix of commercial and residential development. The modest homes on large lots are an urban farmer’s dream. In addition, recent improvements to streets and bike routes and the promise of a 25-acre park prove that Cully is truly an emerging neighborhood. Among residents, there is a strong sense of community identity and active local involvement to improve the quality and livability of the area.
Roseway is located in Northeast Portland and is bordered by the Rose City Park, Beaumont-Wilshire, Cully, Sumner, and Madison South neighborhoods. Roseway features small to mid-sized single family homes in classic vintage styles like Ranches, Cape Cods, Tudors, and Bungalows. Most neighborhood streets are quiet with some mature trees.
